Give thanks that the students are keen to grow in their faith and study the Bible together. Pray for the special events they are holding to strengthen and extend their community and as a means of reaching out to non-believers.

National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon (NESSL)As conflict continues in Syria and as Lebanon struggles with economic collapse, pray for alleviation of the poverty that is prevailing in so many communities and touching every sector of life.

“Freedom” Belfast Citywide Events Week is taking place this week. Please pray for the CU students as they host and welcome and invite their friends along to these events. Pray for the conversations that will follow on and for many people to hear the good news of the gospel and be saved! Pray for our various speakers that they would know God’s peace and strength and communicate well.

Open Doors has updated the World Watch List. The list of countries where it is most dangerous to be a Christian in 2024.

Let’s Pray For Josh McCance, community outreach worker, Donabate & Balbriggan     Give thanks for God’s faithfulness as the four-year anniversary of this church plant is celebrated on Sunday 28 January. Pray for outreach to the community in Balbriggan this coming year, that they will be bold and courageous in sharing the good news of Jesus.

Forces chaplains Pray for all forces chaplains as they serve in their different contexts. Pray that the Lord would guide them in their conversations and that those they engage with would know the love of God.

The Evangelical Christian Church of Timor, Indonesia (GMIT)     Pray for the GMIT Synod Board as a new session begins, especially for Rev Samuel B Pandie as he takes on the position of Moderator and for all other new board members, that the Lord would guide them in their work.

Let’s Pray For Elder abuse Older people are precious, full of wisdom and guidance through every step of life. Often as people age, they feel pushed aside and undervalued. Pray that as a society we would celebrate and take care of older people in our communities. Pray for the protection of older people from abuse perpetrated by those in whom they often have an expectation of trust. Give thanks for organisations which aim to prevent the abuse of older people through raising awareness, providing advice and guidance, influencing and informing policies in this area.

Cost of living  Give thanks for organisations like Christians Against Poverty and others who support people overwhelmed by debt and financial challenges resulting from the cost-of-living crisis. Pray that those who are in difficulty will find ways to access the support they need.

General CouncilPray for the staff in the General Secretary’s Department as they support several of the Councils in our Church as well as the work of the Clerk and Deputy Clerk of the General Assembly and the Public Affairs Officer.

Training in MinistryThe Deaconess Selection & Training Panel meets next Tuesday, 30 January. Pray for the Panel as it oversees the current recruitment of deaconesses. Pray too for Rev Angus Stewart, its convener.

Pray for the single mothers in the asylum-seeking community as they seek to create a stable environment for their young children while facing many cultural, linguistic, social and practical hurdles.
