How Do We Watch TV
What has happened to us? When did we stop caring about honesty, truth and integrity? Donna Jennings (Evangelical Alliance) asks some challenging questions not about ‘what’ we watch, but how we watch and engage with screen stories in light of the God-story?

PCI Podcast
This episode is focused on congregations can recover core elements of their life and witness that has been lost over the past year. We hear from Author and Pastor Karl Vaters who unpacks some key themes from his recently published book called “The Church Recovery Guide.” He explores the need to re-assess our programmes, re-engage with volunteers and continue to use digital technology to engage those outside our church. Host Rick Hill is also joined by PCI’s Children’s Development Officer Ruth Bromley to consider this theme from a children’s and family angle. To read more of Karl’s thoughts, check out this blog: What To Do If Church Volunteers Don’t Come Back For A While | KarlVaters.com

Beside The Burn
This week we begin a new series “How do we cope with James?” This week we ask “How do we cope with ... Speaking?” We all face difficulties in life and James has some great advice.

Songs From The Book Of James
The Gospel Coalition have produced a playlist of 100 songs inspired by the book of James, and I intend to share some of those songs each day on the Blog, but you can listen to the full playlist during the next few weeks as we continue our studies in this book. I have benefited greatly from listening to these songs over and over again as I have asked God to speak from His word.
You can stream the playlist on Spotify or on Apple Music right now.

Here are the songs for today with a little thought about their subject matter.

  • “Proverbs 3:5–6,” John van Deusen - God’s wisdom to make good plans for us.
  • “The Perfect Wisdom of Our God,” Keith and Kristyn Getty

Youtube Playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq2dO6q3VUIbGS7l8qyXDSrTrU3iXS_-y
I’ll add the songs to this playlist each day.

Let’s Pray For Social Witness
Pray for the work and witness of the Disability Services Committee as they oversee the work of Willow Brook, Aaron House, Lawnfield and Peacehaven. Pray for the residents and tenants as they adjust to new freedoms within the new guidelines.

Victims and Survivors
Pray for those who have been impacted by the conflict in Northern Ireland and for whom public discussions about dealing with the past trigger painful and distressing memories. Pray that they would know the reality of the peace and comfort that comes from God.

General Council
Pray for the meeting of the Irish Inter Church Committee (IICC) taking place during the
incoming week.  This is the forum where the IICC’s denominations meet with representatives of the Bishops’ Conference to discuss issues of mutual concern.

Linkage Commission
The Commission is due to meet on 25 and 26 May, with up to eight vacant congregations seeking permission to call a minister. Give thanks that the easing of Covid-19 restrictions now make it easier for congregations to hear and call a minister, and pray that the Lord will give wisdom to the Commission as they consider requests, and seek the upbuilding of the Lord’s Church.

Sandra McCracken (36 minute video)
Here is another interview with Sandra. What role should worship and the Psalms play in discipleship? In this episode, singer and songwriter Sandra McCracken explores that question with our host, Oliver Hersey. They talk about her new album Patient Kingdom, slated to release in October, 2020. Her new single “I Will Sing,” is based on Psalm 89 which Sandra wrote with Leslie Jordan, who also co-wrote the song “Steadfast” from God’s Highway.

Jesus Strong and Kind’ by City Alight.
From the group that brought us “Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me” we have “Jesus Strong And Kind” - Simple enough for every age, but profound, Jesus-centred, grace-filled, heart-warming and memorable. A wonderful song to meditate on.

Shane & Shane (56 minute video)
We have featured songs from Shane and Shane a number of times n the Blog, here is a full 56 minute concert from the LINGER Conference last year.

Sandra McCracken (15 minute video)
One of my best discoveries during the past year has been the music of Sandra McCracken. I’ve come very late to Sandra but her music is thoughtful and biblical, I’ve shared a number of her songs over the months, here she is in conversation about her songwriting with Matt Merker from Getty Music. Sandra shares about the hymns that have influenced her songwriting, how the biblical posture of lament reminds us that suffering is never meaningless, and the story behind her song "We Will Feast in the House of Zion."

Worship And God’s Word (2 minute video)
Jared C. Wilson explains the relationship between worship and Scripture in this first of three videos. https://t.co/pcs6REIwih

Free Audiobook
There is an extra free book this month. The Hiding Place - The amazing story of Corrie Ten Boom, a heroine of the Dutch Resistance who helped Jews escape from the Nazis and became one of the most remarkable evangelists of the 20th century, is told in her classic memoir, now retold for a new generation.

  • “Praise the Lord Ye Heavens,” Young Oceans, Harvest - another song about offering our praise to God.
