Let’s Pray For PCI global mission workers
Pray for all PCI global mission workers (GMWs) wherever they are located around the world. Pray that each will know God’s abiding presence as they celebrate the birth of Christ. Pray for the families of GMWs, including those children separated from parents who are serving abroad this Christmas.

Portugal
Pray for the country of Portugal with a population of over 10 million of which 3% are evangelical Christian. Give thanks for the growth of the church plant Comunidade Pedras Vivas in Porto and pray for the members as they meet to celebrate Christ’s birth.

Ballina & Killala, Rev David Clarke, vacancy convener
Give thanks for those who faithfully attend and serve in the congregation week by week. Pray for encouragement, spiritual growth and a growing sense of prayerful expectation within the congregation in this period of vacancy.  Pray for wisdom, discernment and vision for those making decisions about the future.

Roberta Irvine, deaconess, Elmwood
Pray for Roberta as she continues to serve as a deaconess in Elmwood Presbyterian Church, Lisburn. Give thanks for the many initiatives she is involved in, particularly those seeking to reach out in the local community. Pray that Roberta would find a sense of refreshment in her ministry at this time of year.

Safeguarding
Almost 2,000 children in NI were identified as needing protection from abuse this year. Pray for these vulnerable children. Pray for ministers, designated persons and others within congregations who are dealing with difficult child protection issues. Pray for guidance and wisdom as they work together with Jayne Bellingham, PCI Safeguarding Lead, to resolve issues.

Loneliness
Pray for those of any age who feel isolated and lonely, especially during the Christmas holidays when normal activities are paused. Pray for opportunities to look out for neighbours and friends, and to share with them the love and hope of Jesus.

General Council
Give thanks for the faithfulness of God to our denomination throughout 2024. Pray for God’s guidance, wisdom and blessing upon our church as the new year begins.

Training in Ministry
In Ephesians 3:8, the riches of Christ are described as “unsearchable”, “incomprehensible”, “incalculable”, “immeasurable”, “boundless” in English versions. So many different words are used by translators because it’s impossible to describe the immensity and wonder of the riches of Christ. God has become man, Jesus Christ, the One who blesses his believing people with such riches. Praise him!

Let’s Pray For General Council
As Christmas Day approaches, pray that ministers, elders and members throughout the congregations of PCI might know special times of worship in our church families as well as a time of refreshment and rest.

Training in Ministry

Give thanks for the completion of another term at Union College, and pray for students and staff - that they would be blessed with rest and refreshment over the Christmas break. Pray too for those in congregational placements - that they would benefit from being part of the church family that they are placed in – both for their own walk with the Lord, and their preparation for ministry.

Moderator’s Christmas Message

In his Christmas Message, Presbyterian Moderator, Right Reverend Dr Richard Murray, writes of two ancient cities, the City of David, known as Bethlehem, and Kraków in Poland, were he visited this month. He laments how unlike the famous Christmas carol; Bethlehem, and the Middle East, do not lie ‘still’ and at peace today.

Yet in Kraków, Dr Murray (centre, pictured with Rev Sashko Nezamutdinov (left) lead pastor of Christ the Saviour and PCI's Rev Uel Marrs, Secretary to the Council for Global Mission) found the light of Christ and the hope of salvation that came from Bethlehem. It was burning brightly in a new fledgling denomination he visited, contrasting this with the utter darkness he found on a tour of Auschwitz.
Dr Murray said, “the message of Christmas is about hope, and the arrival of the Light of the World, The Prince of Peace Himself, who came and preached peace to those who were far off and peace to those who were near.
“In an uncertain world, where so many are at war with each other, and so many are at war with God, the gracious invitation of God is to take refuge in Jesus Christ and trust Him to be the Saviour of our soul…”
The minister of Drumreagh Presbyterian Church near Ballymoney in County Antrim continued, “In a world full of trouble and sorrow, we give thanks that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it”, for if you rest in the finished work of Christ, you too will know the peace of God that passes understanding.”
Dr Murray concludes by saying, “My prayer is that the God of peace will bless you with that peace over Christmas, and that His ‘Shalom’, peace in its deepest wholeness and entirety, will be your shalom today and forevermore.”
