Dear Friends of Burnside,

This Sunday, we'll be exploring a somewhat lesser-known book of the Bible - Lamentations. While its name suggests sorrow and grief, we'll discover how its laments ultimately point us to the suffering of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

In the midst of Jerusalem's desolation after the invasion of Babylon, the prophet Jeremiah pours out his heart in anguish over the city's ruin. Yet even here, we'll see echoes of Christ's own affliction on the cross as He bore the weight of our sins.
This Second Sunday in Lent, we'll be guided through Lamentations 1 to not only lament our sinful condition, but to find hope and healing in the "Man of Sorrows" who was pierced for our transgressions.

I hope you'll join us for this journey from lament to rejoicing in the finished work of our Suffering Saviour.
Join us at 11:00am to find Mercy In The Way Of Sorrow.

Bowling Club
7:15pm Monday & Thursday. New members will be very welcome.

Bowling Service
The Annual Service organised by our Indoor Bowling Club will take place at 7:00pm Sunday 3rd March with Coleraine Community Choir and Rev. Stephen Williamson. Supper afterwards in the church hall. Everyone is very welcome.

World Day Of Prayer 2024
7:30pm Friday 1st March in Agherton Parish Church

Girls’ Brigade
GB continues this Tuesday.
Explorers (3-7 year olds) 6pm-7pm
Company section (8 - 18year olds) 7pm- 8.15pm

Prayer Meeting
9:30am Wednesday in Minor Hall

Community Cafe - Drop-In
The Drop-In continues on Thursday 10:30am - 12noon. Do invite others to come and join us. Free tea/Coffee scones, biscuits and a chat.

Defibrillator Training
We will be providing Defibrillator training on a Wednesday night in February (duration 2 hours - more details to follow) If you would like to receive training please speak to Janice or Richard

Lent Devotional Series
“Finding Mercy On The Way Of Sorrow” by Robin Ham is our guide to the book of Lamentations this Lent. Books will be available for £3 on Sunday. Extra copies are available even if you haven’t ordered. (If you buy the physical book an ebook copy is also available to read on Kindle/ipad if that is more convenient)

The Burnside Blog
The Blog continues every weekday on the Church Website, there will be a short devotional Podcast/Video complimenting the book “Finding Mercy On The Way Of Sorrow” during Lent with some topics for prayer, articles to read, music to listen to and Jigsaws to puzzle you.

Dear Friends of Burnside,

This Email will cover the next two weeks.
On Sunday week (18th February) we welcome Lee McAllister back to Burnside.
This Sunday we begin our Journey Through Lent.

Grappling with Hard Questions Together

How long, O Lord? This cry echoes from ancient to modern times. As we look around at the suffering in our world and walk through our own valleys today, we join the chorus of those asking "How could this happen?"

This Sunday, we begin a Lenten series exploring the heavy themes found in the Biblical book of Lamentations. Through poetic laments, we watch Jerusalem wrestle with the devastation of their cherished city and question God in the profound sorrow that follows.

Yet even in the ashes of ruin, we see whispers of mercy, redemption, and the compassion of God that never fails.

Join us this Lent as we dive deep into Lamentations together. In community, we'll face hard questions, cling to hope found in Christ alone, and discover the solace we have in the unchanging nature of our mighty God.

Each weekday we'll study Lamentations further while also being guided by the book "Finding Mercy on the Way to Sorrow." Join us by reading teh Book and listening to the Blog, our time will include special music, and prayer. You won't want to embark on this poignant yet meaningful Lenten journey alone!

We welcome you to be part of something special over the next 40 days leading up to Easter. As we ask the age-old question "How long, O Lord?" may we rest together in God's infinite compassion through it all.

21 hope returns when I remember this one thing:
22 The LORD’s unfailing love and mercy still continue,
23 Fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise.
24 The LORD is all I have, and so in him I put my hope.
25 The LORD is good to everyone who trusts in him,
26 So it is best for us to wait in patience—to wait for him to save us--
27 And it is best to learn this patience in our youth.

His feet are his hands, his legs his arms, each word uttered is underlined with a gesture of his leg and foot. As he explains - ‘the only time his feet are at rest is when he is walking’.

Please prayerfully consider inviting at least one other person to come and hear this remarkable story.
