Ask God to encourage his people in worship as we meet today, helping us look back with thankfulness for all he has been to us and look forward in hope, anticipating his ongoing presence with us.

Pray for the Early Childhood Development centres in Livingstone, Monze and Mazabuka – for the children not only to have fun through play, but to learn that Jesus loves them.

Pray for CCAP Synod of Zambia as they hold their bi-annual General Administrative Committee meeting this week. Pray for wisdom as they make plans for the coming year. Pray too for Diane as she presents a report on Early Childhood Development and also assists the Synod with other presentations.

Let’s Pray For Social Witness
Pray for those who have survived abuse and are in recovery, that they may find the appropriate help, a safe place and ongoing support. Pray for those who have yet to tell their story, that they may find the strength to disclose. Give thanks for individuals and organisations who provide specialist help and training in this area.

Adoption
The NI Assembly is considering reforms to legislation around adoption, fostering and looked after children and young people. Give thanks for those who provide care to children and young people – families and social workers – and pray that through these reforms better pathways and support would be available for all involved.

General Council
Pray for the meeting of the Church Leaders taking place this week as they consider sensitive and sometimes complex issues affecting not only the churches, but also the perception of the church in wider society and the public square.

Council for Training in Ministry
The Pastoral Care for Ministers and Their Families Panel meets this Tuesday, 19 October at 11am. Give thanks for the support that the Panel gives, and pray for it and its convener, Rev Niall Lockhart, that the Lord will use it to encourage and sustain ministers and their families as they serve him in these challenging times.

8 – 14 October
Waterford IT CU are hosting an open mic night to build relationships with unbelievers and people in other college societies. Pray for boldness as they also plan to host an evangelistic event and talk early in the semester.
Pray for the plans for a Munster CU’s weekend away at the end of October; that it would be able to happen within restrictions and that it would fire students up for mission.
Molly (Relay Worker) and Elin (Staff Worker) are both very new to Galway/the West. Praise God for how he has looked after them so far and pray for peace as they continue to adjust to a new place and that they would develop good relationships with CU members, churches and non–Christians.

15 – 21 October
Praise God for the zeal given to the Royal College of Surgeons CU committee and for their willingness to try new things in faith that God will work. Pray that they would continue to grow deeper in love for God and his Word and find great joy as they serve him and their campus.
Galway and Limerick CU students at the end of EQUIP: Galway in August were filled with passion for the mission of introducing fellow students to Jesus. We’re thankful for gospel communities that are excited for mission and not ashamed of the gospel. Pray that there would be many opportunities to witness on campus this semester.

The prayer points for this week.

1 – 7 October
There are seven Relay Workers this year around the island, as well as a Reach trainee (Friends International’s discipleship programme). Pray that they would build great relationships with students and that students would grow more confident in their identity in Christ and outreach, as a result of Relay Workers coming alongside them this year.
Students on the North coast are experiencing a lack in the clubs/societies/activities they can be involved in due to COVID restrictions. Pray that both returning students and freshers can find groups to be involved with which can become ripe ground for mission on campus.

Open Doors has released the World Watch List. The list of countries where it is most dangerous to be a Christian in 2021.

Let’s Pray For Global Mission
Pray for wisdom and guidance as important decisions are made regarding our church’s work
and witness globally at the General Assembly today. Pray too for the Listening to the Global Church presentation to the Assembly tomorrow (Wednesday at 2pm) that our church will be challenged by our global partners.

Congregational Life and Witness
Pray for the work of the Council for Congregational Life and Witness whose report comes to the General Assembly this evening, asking that God would continue to enable it to be nimble in responding to the needs of congregations as they emerge from the shadow of the pandemic.

It comes as a surprise to some that Charles Spurgeon had a lifelong battle with depression. His reputation as a famed and powerful preacher, his cheery wit, and his cigar-smoking manliness might lead us to imagine there could never be a chink in his Victorian Englishman’s armor. It shouldn’t be a surprise, of course: being full of life in a fallen world must mean distress, and Spurgeon’s life was indeed full of physical and mental pain.
