Praying For Afghanistan
Open Doors are encouraging us to pray for Afghanistan this Month.
More Details Here - https://www.opendoorsuk.org/news/latest-news/pray-afg-week-1/

Since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan last year, our persecuted church family in Afghanistan have been crying out for us to join them in prayer. Throughout the month of February, find daily prayer points to help you pray with our Afghan brothers and sisters. All names have been changed for security reasons.

Since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan last year, it has never been more dangerous to be a secret Afghan believer – and our persecuted church family there are crying out for us to join them in prayer.

It can be hard to know how to pray, but we serve a mighty God who hears our prayers and draws near in the darkness. Join with the church in Afghanistan as we pray through four of God’s names in the Bible – El Roi, Jehovah Shalom, Jehovah Jireh and Jehovah Nissi – throughout the month of February.

El Roi – The God who sees
“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 16:8

Tuesday 1 February

There is a very small minority of secret believers in Afghanistan – and because of the threat of death upon their faith being found out, many of them don’t ever tell the people they love that they have chosen to seek and follow Jesus. Not knowing who to trust, not all of them have communities to lean on for support.

When the Taliban returned to power, rumours of what they could do to Christians spread, and surprise house visits from armed men became a common occurrence. In fear, secret believers went into hiding, and many have tried to flee the country. Yet there are still believers who have chosen to stay, even with the prospects of a very grim future; they are trusting God for what comes next.

Saad is a secret believer who has decided to remain in Afghanistan with his wife, Fatimah. On the night the Taliban returned, Fatimah gave birth to a daughter. “When the Taliban took control, it was everything we feared,” Saad says. “The night the Taliban took control, I felt someone step into my memories and try to snuff them out, to speak fear to me.”

Today, pray that secret believers in Afghanistan will not let fear of the Taliban reign over how they live; pray that God will give them courage.

He Maketh No Mistake
Some of you have asked for the poem from Sunday.

My Father's way may twist and turn,
My heart may throb and ache,
But in my soul I'm glad to know,
He maketh no mistake.

My cherished plans may go astray,
My hopes may fade away,
But still I'll trust my Lord to lead
For He doth know the way.

Tho' night be dark, and it may seem
That day will never break,
I'll pin my faith, my all in Him,
He maketh no mistake.

There's so much now I cannot see.
My eyesight's far too dim;
But come what may, I'll simply trust
And leave it all to Him

For by and by the mist will lift
And plain it all He'll make,
Through all the way, tho' dark to me,
He made not one mistake.

Let’s Pray For Moderator
Give thanks that the Moderator is once again able to resume some of the usual activities and visits in this, the last phase of his year in office. Pray for the Sunday morning service at Windsor which will be taken by the Moderator – the final one before the congregation at Windsor re-locates. Pray also for the Ards Presbytery Day of Prayer – culminating in a Presbytery wide service at Hamilton Road, Presbyterian Church, Bangor.

Worship: Duty and joy
‘Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.’
Psalm 95:1.
As we worship today ask God to help us to do so as joyful duty, with hearts that want to declare him worthy of our praise.

Myanmar
Pray for the people of Myanmar one year on from the 2021 military coup. Pray for a just and fair government which will seek to support everyone living in Myanmar. Pray for the leaders and members of the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar, may they be assured that God is with them and be strengthened in their faith.

Afghanistan
Pray for the people of Afghanistan, especially those struggling to afford enough food and other basic necessities. Pray for our partners Christian Aid Ireland and Tearfund as they seek to get aid to those in need.

The Crumbs Under Your Table

Storms Of Life
Anyone who has lived for much time at all knows that in life storms will surely come. Sometimes, seemingly out of nowhere, we are faced with an unexpected job loss, a grim diagnosis, the painful passing of a loved one, or the sorrow of goodbyes. Like the disciples caught in the storm on the Sea of Galilee, we can feel overwhelmed by these trials, as if our boat were sinking

Winter Olympics - Praying For Christians in China
Pastor Wang Yi has been in prison more than 1,100 days and is serving a nine-year prison sentence for leading a large unregistered church in Chengdu, China. He was open about his ministry, even posting sermons on YouTube. He was also open about his loyalties; he made it clear that while he loves his nation, his first loyalty is to Jesus Christ.
To Communist officials, Pastor Wang is a grave threat. His church has been continually harassed, and police have detained or arrested many of its members. Since her husband’s arrest, Pastor Wang’s wife has essentially been under house arrest, unable to interact with other church members.
Pastor Wang Yi and his family are among millions of Christians in China who are suffering persecution for proclaiming the truth of Christ. As you watch the Olympic Games, remember to pray for them.

Re-surrender
“It begins with a decision, but then this life with Jesus, actually becoming a follower of Jesus and yielding to more and more means ‘resurrender’.”
Whether in the northern or southern hemisphere, these same skies unite us, all of God’s children, as many as the stars in the sky, just as the Lord promised Abraham. It is under these same skies that Christ’s church, His body on earth, exists today. Though separated by oceans and borders the mandate of Hillsong Worship continues under these same skies. One in heart and spirit, unified in mission and cause—to glorify the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to build His Church, and to serve His Church with the new song. New From Hillsong.

On Beside The Burn this week, we turn to Daniel and find out how we can find blessing as we live a second choice life.

Join me each week-day for a short devotional video including a bible reading and prayer to encourage us as we enter 2022.

The Book Of Daniel
This is an excellent retelling of the story of Daniel, explaining how the various kings fit into the story. I highly recommend watching it. It lasts about an hour and a half and I will include the link each day this week so that you can watch it a section at a time if you don’t have time for the whole film. A higher quality version is available with a Amazon Prime subscription or can be rented from Amazon for £1.99.

Let’s Pray For Naomi Leremore (global mission worker, Kenya)
Pray for Naomi and her colleagues on the Theological Education by Extension team. Pray that the new mentorship course will be well used throughout the Presbyterian Church of East Africa and be a useful tool in reaching out to and discipling teenagers across Kenya.

Pakistan
Pray for leaders and members of the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan as they live out their faith in Christ. Pray for strength and protection for Christians suffering persecution in Pakistan and around the world.

Why We Pray
Sometimes, when a person starts to understand Reformed theology and the sovereignty of God for the first time, it can confuse her prayer life. If God has already determined what is going to happen, why pray? Yet God’s Word commands us to pray! The Bible clearly doesn’t see a contradiction between God’s absolute sovereignty and the fact that he works through our prayers.

17 – 23 January
Coleraine CU have endeavoured to develop their small groups into missional gospel hubs this year and have been running a series of ‘Go’ nights to invite non–Christian friends along. Pray small group members continue to be welcoming and missional as they build towards an Events Week in week four of this semester.
Pray for Sally in the CUI office as she works with our two sets of auditors (NI and ROI) to complete the audits of both sets of annual accounts for the end of February.

Chinese Christians & The Winter Olympics
The Following is from Voice Of The Martyrs
As the eyes of the world turn toward Beijing and the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, we invite you to join believers around the globe in praying for our Christian brothers and sisters who are suffering persecution at the hands of China’s Communist government.

Though they aren’t considered Olympians, many Chinese Christians walk or bicycle great distances to deliver the gospel, lift countless boxes of Bibles for delivery to new believers and endure great suffering for the name of Christ — even in Chinese prisons and concentration camps.

We invite you to join Christians around the world who are using the Winter Olympic Games, hosted by China’s Communist government, as a daily reminder to pray for Christians in China. Add your name below to indicate your commitment to pray for persecuted Christians in China each day during the Winter Olympic Games.

Here are two specific ways you can pray for Chinese Christians during the Olympic Games:
= Pray that pastors and church leaders will stand for biblical truth despite government pressure to compromise.
- Pray that Chinese believers will be encouraged, experiencing unity and fellowship as members of the body of Christ.
Click the link below for more ways to pray and to join Christians around the world who are committing to pray for China’s Christians during the Olympic Games.
