Spot The Lie
World: “Follow your heart.” Jesus: “Follow me.” World: “Discover yourself.” Jesus: “Deny yourself.” World: “Believe in yourself.” Jesus: “Believe in me.” The mantras of the world are pathetic substitutes for the words of Christ. A Prayer for a Fresh Start
God, I’m excited for a new year, and I want to step into it with boldness and confidence. But if I’m being honest, I’m uncertain of what the year will hold—and that can feel unsettling. Search me, God, and refresh my heart. Please help me surrender my expectations for this year. Transform my mind as I draw near to You. Search me, God, and align my heart with Yours. As I pursue the plans You have for me, let me remember what You’ve already helped me overcome. Search me, God, and heal my heart. Whatever this year holds, I know You hold me. Nothing is impossible for You! Restore me, God, and make me new. In Jesus’ name, Amen. (A prayer from YouVersion the Bible App) |

Christian Unions Ireland
The prayer points for this week. 10 – 16 January Our International Student Ministries Ireland Team is attending the Friends International Conference this week together with colleagues from across the UK & Ireland. Pray for refreshment, inspiration, and a time to be encouraged in their work with international students in Belfast and Dublin. Dóchas (NUI Galway) and University of Limerick CU are currently in the midst of organising Events Weeks which is a new endeavour for many students in those CUs. There will be a week in Galway followed by a week in Limerick and all the Relay Workers from CUI will be coming to speak. Pray the students and CUI workers would depend on God and be prayerful throughout it all. |
An old way to pray about today’s challenges
We are just into the new year, yet it can already feel overwhelming to look at the headlines in the news and think about how, as Christians, we should respond. One of the ways we can combat these feelings is to look to Christian spiritual practices that enable us to slow down and hear God’s voice, and to inspire us to take action. Practices such as Lectio Divina.
Lectio Divina (Holy Reading) is an ancient Bible-meditation practice (originating from the Hebraic tradition of the Shema), which involves listening with the heart. It allows us to focus on the text we are reading, to slow down and hear what God is wanting to say to us through the passage. It helps us hear specifically and individually from God through scripture, while being guided by the Holy Spirit.
